How to register a death

Registration of death overseas is not obligatory with the British Consulate General. However, if a death of a British national is registered, a British form of death certificate will be issued and a record of the death would be held afterwards at the General Register Office in the United Kingdom.

If you wish to register the death you should provide the following documents:

1- Completed application form - Death Registration Form

2- The deceased's local death certificate
3- The deceased's British passport OR Certificate of Naturalisation or Registration.

All documents must be original documents, photocopies are not accepted.
Chargeable fees: please see Consular Fees
